Born and raised in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina made a deep impact on Dapper Bruce Lafitte. While so much of his world quite literally disappeared with the passing of the storm, the ritual and resilience of his community remained, against all odds, intact. Lafitte’s work is a celebration of black culture. From Mardi Gras parades to marching bands, each painting represents a historic coming together – an exemplification of the kind of teamwork it takes to overcomes any hell or high water that may come one's way.
